Zalando – Lead Product Strategy, Zalando Fulfillment Solutions (current employer – 2018 until end of February 2021)The impressive and demanding academic environment of the University of Lagos as well as my involvement in extracurricular activities in campus propelled me to great heights. In 2011, I got a chance to represent the Department of Adult Education at the inter-faculty debates and I emerged the overall winner. In 2013, the university sponsored my attendance at the Global Media Forum, Germany. It was my first time travelling out of Africa and I got to meet to and exchange ideas with people from all corners of the world. Another notable turning point for me, was when I qualified to join the maiden edition of Impact Your World Leadership Academy, where we were coached by various industry experts to become leaders  in our chosen field. I graduated as one of the top 5 out of a class of 50 who got to attend the One Young World Summit 2013 South Africa, with leaders like Richard Brandson, Arianna Huffington, late Koffi Annan and others.

The various conference I represented the university at, gave me the confidence and the exposure to think and compete globally. All of which was vital to my development and only made possible due to the strong support of the University management, the department, the faculty, course advisers, the professors and the Guidance and Counselling Unit. They are selfless professionals ready to go the extra mile to give a piece of advice or sometimes their valuable time to write recommendations or even provide financial support.

In my final year at the university, I got my first internship offer from DHL Headquarters in Germany. I got the courage to aim this high due to the skills gained from the Adult Education Department and the University of Lagos. UNILAG gave the platform to launch my career on a global scale. I started with zero experience and I only survived those early tough and difficult days due to my strong foundation from the University of Lagos. I have been working in Germany for the past 7 years purely on that foundation of just my Bachelor’s degree from UNILAG and very importantly the extra-curricular exposure I received. UNILAG has made a huge impact on my current professional trajectory and my career has progressed and evolved ever since. I am really always proud to call myself an Akokite!
