INTRODUCING PROFESSOR KENNETH AMAESHI

The University of Lagos community is pleased to announce the arrival of Professor Kenneth Amaeshi, who has been appointed as the Adjunct Occupier of the Samuel Asabia First Bank (FBN) Professorial Chair of Business Ethics in the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences.

Professor Amaeshi arrived at the University on Friday, 13th March 2026, to commence his engagement under the distinguished Professorial Chair established to advance scholarship and thought leadership in business ethics, responsible leadership, and sustainable enterprise.

Professor Amaeshi is an internationally respected scholar in the fields of Sustainable Finance, Corporate Governance, Business Ethics, and Economic Development. He currently serves as Professor of Sustainable Finance and Governance at the European University Institute, Florence, Italy, and is also Visiting Professor of Financial Markets and Leadership in Africa at the London School of Economics, United Kingdom.

Over the years, he has held several prestigious academic appointments, including Chair in Business and Sustainable Development at the University of Edinburgh Business School and Honorary Professor at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town, South Africa.

Beyond academia, Professor Amaeshi has contributed significantly to policy and industry practice. He has served as Economic Adviser to the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, Chief Economic Adviser to the Imo State Government, and Sustainability and Governance Adviser to the Dangote Group.

His research focuses on sustainable development, responsible investment, corporate social responsibility, and governance in emerging economies, particularly within the African context. He has authored and edited several influential books and has published over fifty scholarly articles in leading international journals.

Professor Amaeshi has also contributed to global policy conversations on sustainable finance, including his service as a Member of the European Commission High-Level Expert Group on Scaling Sustainable Finance.

As the Adjunct Occupier of the Samuel Asabia First Bank (FBN) Professorial Chair of Business Ethics, Professor Amaeshi is expected to contribute to strengthening research, teaching, industry engagement, and policy discourse on ethical business practices and sustainable economic development within the University of Lagos and beyond.
