University of Lagos pays last respects to late Chief Arthur Mbanefo

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, led a distinguished delegation of the University to honour the life and legacy of the late Chief Arthur Mbanefo at his burial ceremony.

The solemn event drew eminent personalities from across the country, as family, friends, associates, and beneficiaries of his remarkable contributions gathered to pay their final respects to a man whose life was marked by service, philanthropy, and commitment to national development.

Chief Mbanefo, who held the revered traditional title of ODU-OSODI III of Onitsha, will be fondly remembered within the University community for his extraordinary generosity and visionary support. Notably, he facilitated the establishment of the University’s Digital Research Centre in 2012—an enduring legacy that continues to enhance academic research, innovation, and digital scholarship at the University of Lagos.

The University delegation also included the Chairman of the Advancement Board, Chief Bayo Ojo; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Prof. Afolabi Lesi; the University Librarian, Prof. Chris Okiki; alongside other senior officials and members of the University community.

The University community joins the Mbanefo family, the people of Onitsha, and the wider Nigerian society in mourning this great loss, while celebrating a life well lived—one defined by generosity, vision, and enduring impact.
